Ossett Pictures - Old Ossett Station

Previous | Home | Next

This is a sketch of the first Ossett station dating from about 1865. This station was sited where York House is now located on Station Road and included a goods yard. It can be seen that the station had platforms on either side of the tracks.

By 1880, the station was felt to be inadaquate but the Great Northern Railway Company said it would only build a new station if a new road was built. It was decided then to build a new road from the Market Place to Park Square, which was to become Station Road.
