Little Bull Hog Roast

1911 picture of a Hog Roast at the Little Bull public house, Teal Street, Ossett. The two ladies are my grandmother Annie Green (1889-1975) and her mother Sarah Summerscales (1865-1933), who was then the landlady of the Little Bull. Sarah had recently been widowed when her second husband Lee Summerscales died just a few months after taking on the pub. The guys in the background include my grandfather Gerald Wilson, who for a short time served as a temporary landlord, an unusual occupation for him since he was a lifelong tee-totaller. Many of the patrons of the Little Bull (previously known as the Colliers Arms) were miners working at nearby Roundwood Colliery.
