Steam engine 61268 at Runtlings, Ossett circa 1960

From the estate of Mr. Albert Robinson, Westfield Street, Ossett, courtesy of his son Chris Robinson; this iconic picture shows a steam powered passenger train at Runtlings, Ossett circa 1960. Albert Robinson had an allotment close to the railway lines at Runtlings and he took some excellent B&W photographs, many of which depict the bygone age of steam as would be seen in Ossett.

The steam locomotive is 61268, a B1 Class 4-6-0, which was built on the 16th December 1947 in Glasgow. 61268 was kept in the railway engine sheds at East Ardsley, which were closed in 1965 with the land now being re-used for residential housing.

61268 was withdrawn from service on the 28th December 1964 and sent to Drapers, Neptune Street Goods Yard, Hull, where it was cut up for scrap by the 31st March 1965.
