Leeds Road End, Ossett

This picture, taken in 1972, shows the roundabout at the top of Kingsway, in the area known as Leeds Road End. The Fina petrol station in the centre of the picture was built in the early 1960s and the impressive farmyard barn with roundel windows can be clearly seen in the upper right of the photograph. There was a house located in front of the barn and the house roof is visible below the roundel windows.

Leeds Road End 2012

This is a modern day view of roughly the same Leeds Road End scene, but taken circa 2011. The view has changed considerably in 40 years or so. All the old farm buildings and the Dewsbury Road farm have long gone, to be replaced with modern housing. The old Fina petrol filling station has been demolished and the Skoda car dealership of D.M. Keith shown in the picture has taken its place, as well as the garden of the house, which stood where the evergreen hedge is now located.
