Storr's Hill

"Hollywood" graffiti on a partly demolished wall behind the gardens of Rock House. The graffiti, which has been there for many years is very visible as you walk or drive up Storr's Hill in Ossett. In the early part of the 20th century, the quarry was used by Ossett Borough Council for material to repair the town's roads and for the hardcore to build Kingsway and Queen's Drive in the 1920s. Before then, part the site was used for a rubbish dump for household refuse and a lot of late 19th and early 20th century artefacts have been recovered over the years.

The area of the disused quarry nearest to the old Isolation Hospital was used as a storage area for road repair materials up to the 1980s, but is now defunct. These days, the area is used illegally by motorbikes and BMX cyclists who have made tracks all over the hilly landscape.
