Benton Wilby Coal Merchant

The picture shows the Benton Wilby float for the Gawthorpe Maypole procession of 1930. Benton Wilby was a coal merchant with premises on Dearden Street in Ossett. Like many coal merchants at this time, house-to-house deliveries were made by horse drawn cart. The horse is very well decked out in horse brasses and looks in very good condition.
